Ladies of Disney: Their Make Up: The Princess & The Frog

I bring you the newest edition to the Disney Princess family!

Disney's The Princess & The Frog is a fairy tale set in Jazz Age-era New Orleans and centered on a young girl named Princess Tiana and her fateful kiss with a frog prince who desperately wants to be human again.

Just saw the film recently...Updated June 2010

I reviewed several angles and pictures of Princess Tiana and decided what colors and line of make up would be most appropriate for her. An inspired by tutorial would have changed the look of the whole thing completely, as it would've been either icey blue like Cinderella or pastel green, which would have been like no other Princess or lady of Disney but it just wouldn't have been Tiana. It would have felt more Mardi Gras to me to sweep into that color family to be honest.

This is a Princess or Lady of Disney as they are not what they wore.

Princess Tiana is a lady of color (not the first princess to be bronze) and I am fairer than her in skin tone. So I adapted the make up to work for all skintones. I did use rich plums and deeper sandtones for highlights and shading, and no pastel colors or taupey shimmers. Princess Tiana's make up is richer than a lot of female Disney characters. In all honesty, she was one of the most fun ladies for me because her look is so different. She still has that wide eyed Disney look, but she doesn't resemble anyone else, or propose the challenge of me having to dig for differences to create a look that is her and hers alone, without getting "inspired by." But don't get me wrong...I had fun really making the difference between Cinderella from Sleeping Beauty with eyelashes and certain nude eyeshadow selections etc., etc.

This look is very plum, and works well on a lot of skin tones. I'm not sure hows it would work if yhou are very red haired, pink, or fair skinned, but if a look doesn't work for you edit the shade or hue of the plum or sandtone to a shade or hue of purple, or lavender, or taupe by all means.

1. Apply moisturizer to your skin like MAC's Studio Fix Moisture (hydrant) and let it soak for ten minutes. I like this one because I'm oily and wearing an emollient moisturizer or a sticky moisturizer causes me to break out. This one is thin and not filmy or tacky.

2. Apply Too Faced Shadow Insurance. This eyelid primer has no color pay off.

3. Apply a chapstick, or a balm, or any lip hydrant, so by the time it is time to do your lips they are soft and not chapped.

4. Next apply MAC's Paint Pot in Artifact (red plum) to the lid, and slightly into the crease. If you are very fair MAC's Paint Pot in Fresco Rose (rose pink) will also work and help intensify plum or purple. Apply either paint pot into the outer corner and towards the center only. I advise or urge to not apply this into the very inner corner or inner corner as the paint pots can over intensify the shade of purple and close off the pupil or the entire eye. The reason to artfully apply eye make up is to bolden and brighten the eye.

5. Next apply MAC's eyeshadow in Expensive Pink (duochrome pink with golden shimmer) into the inner corner and into the center overlapping the front of the paint pot, to help create a seamless layer, you can drag a little into the crease. This is the first part of a seamless layer.

6. Next apply MAC's eyeshadow in Trax (burgundy plum with shimmer) into the center of the eye, and blend outward. Y This is the first layer of plummy-purple. This is a good universal purple, its a pretty shimmer on darker lids, and looks lovely on medium skin, and is a great lavender for very fair skin. Also use MAC's eyeshadow in Texture (peachy brown with shimmer-velvet) and blend through the crease with a fluffy blending brush.

7. Next with the MAC 224 brush (tapered bleding brush) apply MAC's eyeshadow in Plum Dressing (pinky plum with metal-veluxe pearl) to the very outer corner.

5. Next take MAC's eyeshadow in Sketch (burgundy with red shimmer-velvet) with the MAC 219 and draw a < into the outer corner, and using the MAC 224 tapered blending brush blend it out for a plummy smokey look.

6. Using MAC's Eye Kohl in Feline (black) draw in the waterline and blend out well into the outer corner.

7. Using MAC's Cream Base in Pearl dab into the inner corner for a pearly white highlight color.

8. Using MAC's eyeshadow in Orb, (soft peachy biege-satin) and the MAC 227 (big fatty blending brush) apply and blend softly into the colors for a highlight color.

9. Using Urban Decay's liquid liner in Oil Slick (shimmery soft black) line the upper eyelid so that it has a continuous line. No tail on the end.

10. Using MAC's Studio Fix Mascara in Black Fix apply several coats starting at the base of the upper lashes, and wiggle up until the lashes are full. Hold the wand vertically, and apply to the bottom lashes so that they are black and inky in color.

11. Fill in brows if needed. Apply MAC's Strobe Liquid (hydrant filled with crushed pigment) so that the skin is luminous) and let it dry for 2 minutes.

12. Apply foundation in your color. Use MAC's Studio Sculpt.

13. Apply setting powder after 2 minutes.

14. Using the new anticiapted MAC Ombre Blush in Vintage Grape (Spring Color Forecast #3-Plum) with the MAC 116 tapered blush brush and blend out. The color pay off for all the Spring Color Forecasts is great, so apply gently in this hue, especially if you are fair. If you are extremely fair, I would use MAC's blush in Plum Foolery.

15. Use a pink luminzer if you wish. If you are darker in skin tone I suggest a topaz color for a luminizer. Nars makes a golden blush. Strike the areas you want to luminize like the nose bridge etc.

16. Using Urban Decay's 24/7 lip pencil in Paranoid (rosey pink) fill in the lips and contour them in.

17. Using MAC's lipstick in Bubblegum (Spring Color Forecast 1-Fuschia) apply to the lips. Bubblegum is gonna sell out-FYI. Raddichio from Spring Color Forecast Collection #3-Plum is already sold out at a lot of places. Hang up from #3 Plum is also sold out online.

18. Apply MAC's Dazzleglass in Date Night (soft blue purple with pearl) to the lips and coat Bubblegum.

19. Using MAC's Blush Ombre in Springshine (Spring Color Forecast #4-Amber: tan-neutral blush) using the E method create a soft bronzey glow. Don't go to deep this is a beauty look, no matter what your skin shade. This is just to make your fairer skin work with the plum easier.

*Note Blush Ombre's are limited edition and cannot be depotted into a blush palette, they are several grams larger than the average MAC blush. These are the same grams size as the Benefit blushes that come in the square box. The color pay off is terrific, and almost has the same finish as a Beauty Powder blush from MAC. Except that these are good contour blushes because they graduate into a deeper color. So if you like to contour-you can contour using a richer shade of color. Kinda reminds me of Benefits Perfect 10. Or you can swirl it around like you would Benefit's Sugar Bomb, and capture all the colors on the brush and use a combo spectrum. You can also use as an eyeshadow.
